Community news • Two Akron service department employees have received state awards. Jim Hewitt received the Golden Manhole Award and Patrick Gsellman was inducted into the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers (the 5S Society) at the Ohio Water Environment Association State Conference in Cincinnati. Hewitt, sewer maintenance superintendent for the Akron Public Utilities Bureau, was recognized for his work with the city and within the professional organization. Gsellman is an environmental division manager in the Engineering Bureau.
